Sallying forth

A Wall Streeter in Round Rock

The Times: Sallie L. Krawcheck, the chief financial officer of Citigroup, is widely regarded as one of the most powerful women in business, but she has never been a director of a public corporation. That is about to change because Dell Inc., whose annual meeting will be on July 21, has nominated her to its board.

Ms. Krawcheck, who turned 41 in late November, will be more than a decade younger than nine of her fellow Dell directors. But she won't be the youngest.

Michael S. Dell, the onetime wunderkind of the personal computer industry who founded Dell, based in Round Rock, Tex., and is its chairman, is three months younger than Ms. Krawcheck.
It's interesting, I immediately like Krawcheck when I saw the photo. I suspect most other people do as well; a quick check of Google images confirms it's not just this photo.

Funny that in our day and age so much can still be achieved by a smile and a pleasant demeanor.

Not that that's all there is to Krawcheck, Fortune magazine's 'Most Influential Person Under the Age of 40' in 2003.
